Comptroller General of Guatemala Dr. Frank Helmuth Bode Visits NAO to Enhance Auditing Cooperation

Dr. Frank Helmuth Bode, the Comptroller General of the Republic of Guatemala, arrived in Taiwan on 30 March 2026, leading a delegation for a five-day professional exchange visit.

Chen Jui-min, the Auditor General of the National Audit Office (NAO) of the Republic of China (Taiwan), leading senior officials, extended a sincere welcome to the visitors. The Auditor General noted the long-standing friendly relations between the audit institutions of Guatemala and Taiwan, highlighting years of mutual professional experience exchange.

During a professional exchange seminar held on the morning of the visit, the NAO presented practical applications of digital auditing and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) integration to support audit work. Dr. Bode shared Guatemala’s recent efforts to adopt digital tools in auditing, such as using facial recognition for attendance management and employing drones to monitor the quality of public works and infrastructure projects.

Dr. Bode noted that audit work serves as an external check on government and an internal safeguard for the public. He emphasized his commitment to combating structural corruption and identifying government deficiencies to facilitate systemic reform, ultimately contributing to national prosperity. This concept closely aligns with the NAO’s commitment to promoting good governance, demonstrating the common goals of both audit institutions in maintaining government transparency and accountability.

During the visit from 30 March to 3 April, in addition to professional exchanges, the delegation met with the Control Yuan, visited the NAO’s Audit Division on Education & Agriculture, as well as the regional audit offices of Chiayi and Hsinchu. They also toured the National Palace Museum, the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application Research and Development Center, and the TSMC Museum of Innovation, gaining first-hand insight into Taiwan’s technological capabilities and cultural heritage.

The NAO noted that the exchange not only deepened professional cooperation but also enhanced international visibility and delivered tangible diplomatic benefits.
