NAO Held “Symposium on Sustainable Development and Audit”, Responding to Initiatives from International Auditing Professional Communities

Symposium on Sustainable Development and Audit
The National Audit Office (NAO) and the Environment Protection Administration (EPA) collaboratively held the “Symposium on Sustainable Development and Audit” on June 5, 2018, also known as the World Environment Day. The Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Office of the Auditor General of Canada, Ms. Julie Gelfand, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada Audit and Accountability Foundation, Mr. John Reed, delivered speeches in the symposium that focused on implementations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by government agencies and the role and contributions of audit agencies in monitoring implementations of the SDGs by government agencies. More than 400 participants from industries, governments, academia, and research units attended the symposium. In the end of the symposium, participants recognized that the issue of sustainable development should be emphasized in government’s future polices, and audit agencies can play the role of a facilitator, fully responding to expectation on the SDGs and contributions of auditing from international communities.
