The Hsinchu County Audit Office found that the Hsinchu County Government did not regularly review and update the data of monitored hillside residential communities. As a result, the hillside retaining wall of one hillside community (with 475 households) on the monitored list in 2015 was undermined. Although the government informed the community in April 2015 to make an improvement, they procrastinated.
After the Hsinchu County Audit Office called for improvements, the government updated the data of hillside residential communities. In addition, the government appointed professional technicians to provide consultation services to the public and to assure that the hillside retaining wall of the unsafe community mentioned above had been improved and new ditches on hillsides had been built.


In August 2015, the Taichung City Audit Division found that the Agriculture Bureau of the Taichung City Government had not actively promoted the policy of covering cut straw with soil to farmers, resulting in a failure to reduce the rate of burning straw. 1,631 and 1,887 hectares of farmland burned straw in 2011 and 2012, accounting for 6.47% and 7.43% of the 25,203 and 25,413 hectares of farmland in the whole city.
After the division called for improvements, the bureau increased awareness through government websites, scrolling text on TV and neighborhood broadcasting systems. The bureau also cooperated with the district offices to perform onsite checks and persuaded farmers to cover the straw with soil. In 2015, 1,129 hectares of farmland burned straw, with the rate of burning straw dropping to 4.58% of farmland in the whole city. As of November 2016, only 42 hectares of farmland had burned straw in 2016, accounting for 0.31% of the total farmland in the whole city, reducing the amount of burnt straw and carbon dioxide emissions.
