In order to promote people from all walks of life to pay attention to the governance issues related to the future development of the country and to discuss the aspects that can be continuously paid attention to in the future, the Audit on Government’s Important Political issues Forum was held at Howard Civil Service International House on September 5 in 2022. After the Control Yuan President Chen Chu and the Executive Yuan’ s minister without portfolio LIN Wan-I delivered opening remarks, the forum discussed four important and forward-looking issues. The four issues were sustainable development, narcotics hazards, falling fertility rates, and long-term care service systems. The National Audit Office reported the findings of the systematic audits over the years, and then all discussants expressed their opinions in the session. It effectively promoted mutual understanding and dialogue between auditors and specialists in related fields. It was the National Audit Office’ s first time to host such forum. There were approximate 330 participants from government, academy, research institutions, practices. The National Audit Office will continue to strengthen and cooperate with stakeholders through various channels so as to improve the innovation and development of government auditing.

The Public Works Bureau of the Tainan City Government replanted the street trees damaged or withered to beautify the city. The Tainan City Audit Division conducted an audit and found that the bureau did not provide a consistent operating standards and procedures for the units responsible for management and maintenance on whether the environment of empty tree wells is suitable for replanting, affecting the safety of pedestrians. After the division called for improvements, the bureau have formulated the operating instructions to maintain the city appearance and ensure the safety of the public on the road.

In order to grasp the current condition of the bridges spanning the high riverbanks and the needs of repairing and strengthening, the High Riverbank Construction Management Office of the New Taipei City Government conducted bridge safety inspections every year, and prepared a budget for the repairing and strengthening of deteriorating bridges. The New Taipei City Audit Division conducted an audit and found that the office did not timely repair and strengthen some of the bridges with serious deterioration in the inspection results. After the division called for improvements, the seriously deteriorating bridges have been repaired and strengthened, or been closed in an emergency first and will be repaired and strengthened soon after the fund is raised.
