The Department of Information and Tourism of Taipei City Government (TPEDOIT) has the duty to inspect the legality of hotels and to fine unregistered hotels. However, the Taipei City Audit Division found that some illegal hotels still operated after being fined for several times. After the Division called for improvements, TPEDOIT issued a regulation and took some measures, such as discontinuing businesses after a deadline and cutting water and electricity supplies, to deter hotels from illegal operations.
The Tainan City Audit Division found out that the Public Health Bureau of Tainan City Government did not actively supervise public health centers to launch smoking cessation clinics and provide education training for healthcare professionals, affecting the performance of preventing tobacco use. After the Division called for improvements, the centers launched smoking cessation clinics and urged doctors and healthcare professionals to participate in advanced cessation training courses. In recently, the number of people who received smoking cessation services increased sharply; thus, citizens’ access to better health services and information was improved.
The Pingtung County Audit Office found out that the air pollution in Pingtung County is pretty serious because of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and ozone. However, the subsidies given from the central government were not enough to conduct effective air pollution prevention measures. After the Office called for improvements, the central government raised subsidies and the county government formed a task force for air pollution reduction to maintain citizens’ health.
