The New Taipei City Audit Division found that the Transportation Department of New Taipei City implemented free parking privileges for people with disabilities in order to reduce the burden of parking fees. But some of the vehicles parked in the parking spaces for a long while, so long that it affected the privileges of other people using the same public resource. For this reason the New Taipei City Audit Office asked the Transportation Department of New Taipei City to improve the situation. According to the results for improvements from the New Taipei City Audit Office, the department published ‘‘The Rules of Preferential Parking in Public Parking Facilities for People with Disabilities’’ to revise the preferential measures on January 1, 2017. After implementing the measures, for people with disabilities, it has improved a lot about the occupation of parking spaces for a long time, and the demand of parking spaces has been met.
The Taichung City Audit Division found that protected areas of water, under the jurisdiction of the Heping District Office, were filled with debris and rubbish. Due to the saturation of garbage, the contractor couldn’t collect the garbage punctually, resulting in problems in environmental sanitation and the safety of the drinking water. After the division called for improvement, the office cleaned 184 metric tons of garbage and debris, installed project notice boards, reinforced patrols, and increased the number of cleaners, improving sanitation of the local environment and maintaining the safety of drinking water for the citizens of Taichung.
The Changhua County Audit Office found that the retaining wall of the Abaokung Landfill, managed by the Yuanlin City Office, had serious cracks and exposed steel bars because of long-lasting non-repair and pressure caused by earthquakes. It was so insecure that it threatened the security of the property and lives of the inhabitants living around the landfill. After the audit office called for improvement, the city office spent eight million five hundred and fifty thousand dollars to cope with water conservation engineering. To guarantee the citizens’ rights, the city office repaired the retaining wall that had serious cracks, revised the related regulations, contracted supervision and inspection every 2 hours every day by a security company, and monitored the leakage of contaminated water and the cracked tubes.
